We are seeking a Geoscientist Technician based in our Denver, Colorado office.

This role includes executing comprehensive data collection, site characterization, and monitoring for various corrective action projects in the Denver area. The Geoscientist Technician role combines fieldwork, data interpretation, and report preparation. In addition, this role includes environmental due diligence projects, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, environmental clearances for Colorado Department of Transportation, and local agency projects under various on-call contracts. This position is hybrid, based on needs and project demands. This position is based in an ERO designated office with an option for a hybrid work schedule based on employee performance, business needs, fieldwork, and client needs.

Position Overview

The Geoscientist Technician is primarily a field position and will support new and existing Geosciences/Environmental projects by conducting field assessment activities including, but not limited to, monitoring well and soil boring installation, lithologic logging, soil and groundwater sampling, stream and surface water sampling, excavation oversight, underground storage tank removal oversight, site inspections, water level monitoring, aquifer testing, and stream gauging. This position will also assist senior scientists with water quality analysis and impact evaluation as part of permitting processes. This position requires regular contact with clients, engineers, and regulators both in the field and via formal report writing.

The Geoscientist Technician will have a basic working knowledge of applicable state and federal environment regulations, rules, guidance, and memoranda primarily those associated with the following state agencies: Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Division of Oil and Public Safety; Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division, Water Quality Control, and Air Quality Control Divisions; and Colorado Department of Natural resources, Water Resources Division.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in earth or environmental sciences.
• 0-3 years of experience conducting environmental investigations, remediation, due diligence, or similar applicable experience.

• Ability to efficiently and accurately enter site form data and photo-document site conditions.
• Ability to meet deadlines and hours per task targets, as assigned, and communicate, beforehand, any potential failure to meet these targets.
• Ability to convey field observations, measurements, and knowledge accurately and incorporate into accurate field notes, project reports, and verbal communication.
• Self-directed problem solving and inquisitive application of knowledge to field situations.
• Strong and accurate verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to commit to multi-day field programs, including off-site/overnight, as needed.
• Professionalism, integrity, and comfort working with people.
• Maintain and ensure scientific and regulatory integrity.
• Verify compliance with the Safety Plan and complete Safety Checklists.
• Ensure daily that all field forms completed by assigned crew are filled out accurately and completely, and data are saved in appropriate locations.
• Complete resource documentation on applicable forms and self-check work for accuracy, clarity, and editorial errors.

Expected Pre-Field Duties (approximately 10% of time)

• Assist with data collection, records acquisition, and review of regulatory files, including environmental database reports and historical information.
• Prepare for field projects by ordering necessary equipment, acquiring required permits, and assisting with logistical planning.
• Update and review project-specific Health and Safety forms.
• Load equipment.

Expected Field Duties (approximately 75% of time)

• Adhere to the project Health and Safety Plan.
• Drive personal or company vehicles to project sites, sometimes in 4WD situations.
• Assist with soil, groundwater, soil vapor sampling, and other monitoring activities.
• Collect digital and spatial data with digital tablets, digital cameras, and GPS units.
• Complete digital or hard copy field forms.
• Record accurate detailed notes, digital photography, and map locations.
• Update project manager in a timely manner should field conditions vary from expected.

Expected Post-Field Duties (approximately 15% of time)

• Unload and properly maintain field equipment.
• Upload/scan all field data into the appropriate server files daily.
• Assist with drafting environmental site assessment/investigation and monitoring reports.
• Other duties, as requested.

Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and Adobe Acrobat.
• Effective communication skills - written and verbal.
• General basic knowledge of procedures for surveys, resource types and details, and data collection.
• Familiarity with tablets and digital data entry.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the company.
• Ability to use creative thinking to adjust to unforeseen circumstances.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be physically capable and possess the skills necessary to perform all aspects of fieldwork, including strenuous hiking, collecting field data, performing in-field data analysis, and taking photographs. Must be able to lift 30 to 50 pounds. Work may also include periods of sedentary work, including sitting and standing and use of a computer.

Compensation and Benefits

ERO offers a very competitive compensation package that includes:

• Hourly position with a pay range of $19.00 to $25.00 per hour.
