Key responsibilities include: Patient Assessment and Care Conduct detailed assessments of patients’ respiratory conditions through physical exams and diagnostic testing. Design and implement personalized treatment plans based on assessments and physician directives. Administer respiratory therapies such as oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, and mechanical ventilation. Monitor and adjust ventilator settings and other devices to ensure patient comfort and safety. Diagnostic Testing Execute pulmonary function tests to measure lung capacity and efficiency. Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis for oxygenation and acid-base evaluation. Utilize advanced diagnostic tools to identify and monitor respiratory disorders. Emergency and Critical Care Provide critical respiratory support during emergency situations, including CPR and advanced airway management. Be actively involved in the care of critically ill patients to help maintain optimal respiratory function. Assist in transporting critically ill patients while ensuring stability during transfers. Education and Training Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and disease management. Offer training and mentorship to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals. Engage in continuous education to stay updated on the latest advancements in respiratory care. Compliance and Safety Follow MUSC Midlands policies and comply with state and federal regulations. Adhere to infection control protocols for a safe patient and staff environment. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of respiratory equipment. Qualifications Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution. Experience: 0-1 year experience in a clinical respiratory therapy setting preferred; critical care or emergency care experience is a plus. Licensure/Certification: Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Skills: Strong clinical skills in respiratory care, excellent communication abilities, and capacity to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions Work Environment: Exposure to health risks with safety protocols in place; ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements: This role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted.
