Seattle City Light is seeking Journey-level Electrician Constructors to join our Field System Operator team. Field System Operators are skilled high voltage workers within the Electrician Constructor job classification that are responsible for operating substation and field equipment. They work independently to respond to and investigate wire downs, trouble calls, alarms, and other issues throughout the SCL service territory. Field System Operators act as first responders and are pivotal to ensuring public safety and timely outage restoration. The work requires expert knowledge of electrical theory, high voltage equipment, and substation operation. Familiarity with the tools and equipment used in the electrical trades, ability to interpret and apply electrical drawings, specifications and codes, and knowledge of safety rules and procedures. These positions will report to the Field System Operators Electrical Construction and Maintenance Supervisor. Responsibilities: Perform planned and unplanned switching and tagging of field and substation high voltage equipment in accordance with Clearance, Keep Open & Hold Open Procedures. Respond to wire downs, arching wires, and perform field checks at the direction of the Power Dispatcher. Respond to substation and customer generated alarms. Evaluate problems, check relay targets, breaker operations and report to the Power Dispatcher. Perform and document daily and weekly substation inspections. Ability to work 12-hour shifts including, nights, weekends, and holidays. Instructs and monitors the work of Electrician-Constructor Apprentices. Installs, maintains, tests and repairs generators, control equipment, electrical motors, power circuit breakers, voltage regulators, automatic generation control equipment, transformers, and other electrical equipment. Installs and repairs conduit and wiring in and around substations, powerhouses and other installations. Installs, inspects and repairs, selective and control relays, station batteries, and chargers. Diagnoses, repairs and replaces water-level monitoring and control systems hoisting equipment, spill gates, intake gates, overhead cranes, and elevator systems. Operates and maintains specialized mobile equipment and vehicles. Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned. Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: Experience: Requires a minimum of three years of experience in the electrical trades as an apprentice or helper, including one year working with 2200 volt or higher electrical equipment (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Certification/License: Current Washington State driver's license. Desired Qualifications: Familiar with High Voltage equipment used in electrical substations and on overhead and underground electrical installations.
