Specialty Coder

This role is responsible for providing comprehensive guidance and support to coding staff within the department. The position involves ensuring timely coding and charge entry activities, assessing employee performance, and identifying training and education needs. Additionally, the role supports disciplinary actions when necessary.

• Guide coders in their primary coding efforts and edit resolution tasks.
• Confirm prompt coding and charge entry activities, ensuring accurate submission for billing.
• Assess and monitor employee performance, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
• Identify additional training and educational needs for staff development.
• Support disciplinary actions as appropriate to maintain departmental standards.

• Charges Entered: Refers to charges submitted for billing, encompassing all patient types, services, financial classes, and statuses.
• Charge Sessions: Involves reviewing charges for edit resolution, including all patient types, services, financial classes, and statuses.
• Coders: Includes Coder I, Coder II, and other positions within the Coding department responsible for resolving edits on outstanding charge sessions in the patient accounting system.
