Animal Services OfficerCoconino County is seeking an Animal Services Officer. Starting hiring range is as follows:Animal Service Officer I: $ 48,680.32Animal Service Officer II: $ 52,236.08Animal Service Officer III: $ 56,009.20Typical DutiesAnimal Services Officers perform work of moderate difficulty in the regulatory program enforcing laws and ordinances concerning Animal Services and rabies control; performs related work as assigned.Animal Services Officer IThis is an uncertified position that will be expected to learn and execute the skills and responsibilities of an Animal Services Officer. This position will work closely with an Animal Services Officer II and III to learn all aspects of the job for a minimum of six months and may be eligible to move into the higher level position after a year of experience.Under supervision, provide information to the public on animal behavior of domestic animals and wildlifeUnder supervision, assist other agencies in capturing and/or retrieving potential rabid animals, domestic and wildlife, and prepare specimens for rabies analysisUnder supervision, manage bite cases involving domestic animals (exposed to wildlife) and humans (exposed to domestic animals and wildlife), including overseeing quarantine observation for CDC recommended timeframesUnder supervision, know the geographic layout of the entire county to perform routine patrols to ensure public health and safety, animal welfare, and compliance with County ordinancesUnder supervision, respond to, investigate, and document allegations of non-compliance of state and county ordinancesUnder supervision, negotiate compliance with involved parties, who may be hostileUnder supervision, know county ordinances and state laws pertaining to Animal Services and where to find themUnder supervision, properly enforce state laws and county ordinances addressing animal welfare and animal behaviorUnder supervision, properly conduct interviews with witnesses and prepare reports, along with gathering evidence pertinent to investigations and deciding if the evidence warrants a verbal/written warning or criminal citationUnder supervision, properly appear in court as a witness to present evidence collected during investigations and testify on behalf of the CountyUnder supervision, generate accurate and precise reports for all calls received and enter accurate data into the databaseUnder supervision, respond in a timely manner to federal, state, county, and city commissioned law enforcement officers' requests for assistance in potentially life-threatening and hazardous situations where animals are presentUnder supervision, professionally work closely with related agencies and organizations to ensure efficient and effective serviceUnder supervision, learn methods on chemical immobilization for potentially rabid, sick, and aggressive animals as well as animals that pose a threat to the public that have eluded other trapping methodsUnder supervision, provides emergency evacuation for animals within the County during a disasterUnder supervision, conduct annual inspections of all kennels and pet shops within the CountyUnder supervision, provide emergency after-hours on-call coverage 365 days a year, including holidaysUnder supervision, performs related duties as assignedAnimal Services Officer IIPerforms all duties of an Animal Services Officer I in an effective and precise mannerProvides information to the public on animal behavior of domestic animals and wildlifeActs as lead representative for rabies control in Northern ArizonaAssists other agencies in capturing and/or retrieving potential rabid animals, domestic and wildlife, and prepares specimens for rabies analysisManages bite cases involving domestic animals (exposed to wildlife) and humans (exposed to domestic animals and wildlife), including overseeing quarantine observation for CDC recommended timeframesPatrols the entire County to ensure public health and safety, animal welfare, and compliance with County ordinancesResponds to, investigates, and documents allegations of non-compliance of state and county ordinancesNegotiates compliance with involved parties, who may Services Officer IISpecializes and leads complex rabies case investigations and offers additional support to the Animal Services Officers and health care providersSpecializes and maintains all Animals Services Officers' chemical immobilization training documentation, purchasing, and controlling of nonscheduled drugs used for immobilizing animalsSpecializes in animal behavior, wildlife, or other related topicsOversees and conducts yearly checks on all Animal Services Officers' equipment. Provides a list of needed or replacement equipment to Animal Services SupervisorSpecializes in addressing problems with the Animal Services' databaseSpecializes and provides CEU training opportunities for all Animal Services Officers and ensures the required 12 units are met and documented before the evaluation periodSpecializes and provides report writing reviews to Animal Services OfficersSpecializes and provides education to the public, both individually and in group settings, regarding county ordinances, state laws, and abatement of vectors to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseasesPerforms related duties as assignedEssential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; working with and around other public officials, citizens, staff and animals (domestic and wildlife); dealing with interruptions; writing, telephones, etc. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazards, and others and exposure to adverse atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases and others.Must be able to lift a minimum of 60lbs. Must be able to work some holidays, be on a rotating shift and respond to emergency after hour calls.Minimum QualificationsAnimal Services Officer I Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and one year of work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.Animal Services Officer II Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience working in a regulatory field, an animal services program, or law enforcement; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.Animal Services Officer III Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience working in a regulatory field, an animal services program, or law enforcement; OR, any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
