Job PostingThis listing closes on 9/6/2025 at 3:00 PM Central Time (US & Canada).Employer: Village of Whitefish BaySalary: $69,095.82 - $94,268.58 AnnuallyLocation: Whitefish Bay, WIJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 2025-3Department: Police DepartmentOpening Date: 07/08/2025Closing Date: 9/6/2025 at 3:00 PM Central Time (US & Canada)Summary Of JobRespond to routine and emergency calls for service and take necessary action consistent with applicable laws, department policy, procedures, and training.Exercise the lawful use of arrest, force, search, and seizure powers in the investigation and enforcement of criminal, non-criminal, ordinance, and traffic violations.Make independent observations to identify existing or potential problems or conditions requiring attention, and initiate appropriate precautionary, preventative, or corrective measures.Conduct thorough and accurate investigations and/or follow-up on all assigned or initiated activity.Document occurrences and activities through the preparation of thorough and accurate reports.Offer credible testimony at trials or hearings regarding the specifics of an incident, arrests made, evidence gathered, or other investigation completed.Follow and obey lawful orders as well as department rules, policies, procedures and directives.Promote professional relationships within the Department, Village government, other governmental agencies, and the community in the furtherance of the department's mission, goals, and objectives.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsAbility to meet requirements, for the position of police officer, established by the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board and the Village of Whitefish Bay Police Commission.Ability to attain and maintain the required level of proficiency or certification in those job responsibilities, duties, or tasks where standards are formally defined or required.Ability to properly operate motor vehicles and/or all other police equipment as necessary to discharge job related duties and responsibilities.Ability to qualify with, carry, and maintain proficiency with department firearms in accordance with department policies and standards.Ability to have a full range of movement, physical strength, endurance, fitness, and conditioning to protect ones self or others, and subdue, control, or arrest resisting subjects.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Ability to deal effectively, ethically, and compassionately with victims, suspects, and others.Ability to control situations where authority is needed.Ability to recall details, copy written and oral information, and apply instructions with a high degree of accuracy.Ability to analyze situations, exercise independent judgment, and to make judicious decisions.Ability to identify and/or gather information needed to generate an effective solution to a problem or dispute.Ability to exercise discretion consistent with department policy.Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances as related to duties and responsibilities.Knowledge of department rules, regulations, directives and policies and procedures.Knowledge of concepts, procedures, and techniques relating to arrest, search, and seizure, evidence collection, processing and preservation, current investigative, interrogation, and interview techniques and procedures.Knowledge of crime scene management and control.Knowledge of Village geography.Supplemental InformationLateral Transfer Benefits:An applicant with less than three (3) years of certified law enforcement experience in a similar position shall start at Step 2 of the applicable wage scale. Applicants with more than three (3) years of certified law enforcement experience in a similar position shall start at Step 4 of the applicable wage scale. Lateral hires shall receive a one-time compensation bonus of $6,000 payable upon completion of the probationary period but shall repay the full amount if the officer does not complete at least three (3) years of employment with the Department.An applicant with certified law enforcement experience will be credited for those years of service for purposes of vacation. After completion of the requisite initial training period, officers will be permitted to use a prorated portion of vacation time based on their credited years of experience.
