New York, United States Weill Cornell Medicine Full time

Postdoctoral fellow position

to study the role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) in antitumor immunity

The Marzio lab at Weill Cornell Medicine has an available position to hire a highly motivated, creative, and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow. Located in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, the Marzio Lab investigates how deregulation of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) promotes cancer progression, with a particular emphasis on the DNA damage response (DDR) and antitumor immunity. To address this question, we use multidisciplinary approaches including biochemistry, cell signaling, mouse models of tumorigenesis, and pharmacotherapy.

Position Summary

Applicants should have recently completed their graduate degree (PhD or MD/PhD) with a background in biochemistry, and/or molecular and cellular biology. The successful candidate will lead projects to elucidate the role of E3 ubiquitin ligases (E3s) in antitumor immunity and dissect the biochemical and molecular mechanisms that drives tumorigenesis via deregulation of the E3s activity. The primary responsibility will be to design and perform benchwork independently to build confidence-in-rationale for novel targets in immune-oncology area and publish results in international meeting and peer-reviewed journals. The postdoc will utilize a multidisciplinary approach that will leverage a broad spectrum of experimental systems and levels of resolution (atomic, molecular, network, cellular, tissue, and organismal). In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas along the lines of the research interest of the lab. You will join a vibrant and fun lab environment and be part of a multidisciplinary team in a stimulating academic setting, with plenty of resources for intellectual and career development, as well as strong mentoring.

Principal Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

· Independently design, develop and test biological hypotheses.

· Interrogate novel cellular and molecular biology.

· Work independently to execute hands-on experiments and analyze data.

· Publish research findings in top-tier publications.

· Effectively present data in internal and external meetings.

· Drive multiple exploratory projects, and work collaboratively with research associate and graduate students.

Education and Qualifications

Required

· Recent Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, oncology, or a related field.

· Strong track record demonstrated in the context of driving target discovery and validation projects and reflected in a strong record of achievement in peer-reviewed publications (i.e., at least one first author publication).

· Strong hands-on expertise and solid skills in molecular/cell biology and biochemistry.

· Ability to work in a team environment, excellent data handling and recording skills as well as oral and written communication skills.

· Ability of trouble shooting and data analysis.

Preferred

Prior mouse handling experience and flow cytometry knowledge.
