DispatcherThe Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, processing, and relaying emergency and non-emergency calls for service. This position plays a critical role in public safety by ensuring timely and accurate dispatching of law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency services.Primary responsibilities include answering and processing 911 emergency and non-emergency calls, determining the nature and urgency of the situation, gathering critical information from callers, relaying it to the appropriate emergency responders, providing pre-arrival instructions, maintaining composure under pressure, assisting distressed or panicked callers, assigning and dispatching personnel, utilizing computer-aided dispatch systems, monitoring real-time status of field personnel, coordinating mutual aid requests, accurately recording and maintaining detailed call logs, operating and maintaining dispatch equipment, following state and agency protocols, assisting in coordinating large-scale emergency response efforts, providing ongoing situational awareness, and activating emergency alert systems.Knowledge and skills required include strong verbal communication skills, ability to remain calm under high-stress conditions, active listening skills, strong written skills, quick analytical thinking, ability to prioritize multiple calls and tasks, high attention to detail, proficiency in computer-aided dispatch systems, familiarity with geographic areas, and strong ability to handle emotionally charged situations.Minimum qualifications include at least six months of experience in emergency dispatch, public safety communications, law enforcement, or a related field.The State of Arkansas is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, citizenship, national origin, genetic information, military or veteran status, or any other status or characteristic protected by law.
