Grading SuperintendentHelena, MT, US, 59604Montana Materials & Construction, A CRH Company, is a leading supplier of aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mixed concrete in Anaconda, Butte, Great Falls and Helena, MT.Position OverviewIn this role, you will coordinate both personnel and equipment on heavy civil construction projects of various sizes. Managing day-to-day relations with the construction crews and the client, traveling to various job sites as needed. As the Construction Superintendent, you'll see the visible results of your work each day, playing an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.What You Can Do (Minimum Qualifications)Background in heavy civil construction to include excavation, underground utilities, grading, site work, concrete and asphalt paving (3-6 years).Someone with a strong background in construction, having progressed from a laborer to a leadership position, and possessing the ability to teach, coach, and mentor all crew members, including equipment operators, laborers, and pipe layers, across various scopes of work.An effective leader who is skilled in managing all aspects of multiple construction projects at a time, including personnel, scheduling, and equipment (3+ years).Passionate about providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback, as well as promoting a safe working environment for all employees.Excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work well with a wide range of personality types.Proficient with PC Programs and the Microsoft Office Suite and possess the ability to quickly learn new programs and applications.Valid driver's license, the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and have current US Authorization to work, or the ability to obtain prior to start without company assistance.Compensation & Company Benefits:Wage DOECrew VehicleMedical/Dental/Vision/PrescriptionGenerous Vacation Policy401k with up to 5% Company MatchProfit Sharing9 Paid Holidays (8 Static and 1 Floating)Tuition Reimbursement ProgramEmployee Assistance ProgramCompany Paid Life InsuranceShort- & Long-Term DisabilityAnnual Merit RaisesOpportunities for Internal MobilityProfessional Development OpportunitiesTraining ProvidedEarn More with our Employee Referral ProgramCompany Discounts on products, goods, services, electronics, automotive, travel & moreOpportunities for Community EngagementKey Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)Work with Project Manager/Estimator to develop project schedules and updates.Work with or in lieu of the dispatcher to schedule projects, personnel, and equipment movement and transport schedules.Participate in project meetings with contracting agencies and customers.Participate as required in pre-bid and post job meetings to evaluate performance and profitability of project to ensure goals are attainable and being met.Interface daily with crew to ascertain their needs, problems and job progress.Make sure that crew timecards are turned in, coding is correct, equipment and labor hours are recorded accurately.Check daily cost sheets for correctness, compliance with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to project manager.Prior to job startup, review with the project manager, project engineer and crew lead the project plans, specifications and review the project startup list to ensure that each item is done, i.e. utility locates, subcontractors coordinated, material ordered etc.Assist Estimating by providing feedback on job progress as opposed to as estimated.Assist Estimating as available by performing field measurements determining sources.Check that job quantities are correct and orders have been submitted.Supervise direct reports and other related employees.Travel to and from various job sites as needed.Routinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.Regular and timely attendance.Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.Key CompetenciesCustomer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs.Teamwork - Contributes to building a positive team spirit.Judgment - Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.Planning/Organizing - Uses time efficiently.Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Accepts responsibility for own actions.Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time.Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.Initiative - Asks for and offers help when needed.Innovation - Generates suggestions for improving work.Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
