As a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) at YNHHS, you'll step into a highly respected role as a licensed professional provider, working in close collaboration with attending physicians across diverse practice settings. In this pivotal position, you'll be the focal point for continuity of care, leveraging your expertise to proactively address and resolve challenges within your scope of practice and specialty-specific standards. Your Impact & Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Excellence As an integral part of our interdisciplinary team at a Level III Trauma Center, you'll provide comprehensive assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient and family needs throughout the entire disease process. Whether in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings, you'll deliver optimal patient care, from diagnostic insights to prognostic guidance. You'll work in close collaboration with supervising/collaborating physicians, adhering to state law, hospital regulations, policies, protocols, and clinical pathways. In some specialties, you may even provide autonomous, team-based care, truly shaping patient outcomes. Your responsibilities will include taking detailed medical histories, performing thorough physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, and formulating and managing comprehensive patient treatment plans. You'll have the authority to perform procedures and prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines, as well as specialty-specific and professional competency standards. In certain clinical areas, you'll experience the autonomy of managing specific patient populations. For those with the prerequisite training and skills, you may also function as a first or second assistant on operative cases, utilizing your fine motor skills and manual dexterity to contribute directly to surgical success. Beyond these core duties, your role may evolve with departmental and operational goals, responding to the dynamic needs of our patients, including emergency situations within YNHHS parameters. 2. Patient Empowerment & Holistic Support You'll play a crucial role in educating patients and their families, providing clarity on care plans, recommended resources, admitting instructions, treatment side effects, and discharge plans, all in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating MD. As part of a compassionate multidisciplinary team, you'll extend essential psychosocial support to patients, their family members, and significant others, always upholding the highest ethical and professional standards. 3. Information Integrity You'll ensure meticulous and appropriate documentation, adhering to all hospital and regulatory requirements. We trust you to protect sensitive information across all formats - digital, paper, film, or voice - safeguarding it from any unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure. 4. What You'll Bring: EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or accredited Physician Assistant Program is essential. EXPERIENCE One year of prior clinical working experience as an NP/PA within a given specialty/service line is preferred APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through our rigorous Medical Staff process. You'll need to provide evidence of current competence to practice through appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners during this process to ensure eligibility. LICENSURE For Physician Assistants: Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current Connecticut State Physician Assistant License. ACLS/BLS Certified (when indicated for position profile). DEA License (when indicated for position profile). PALS (when indicated for pediatric position profile). NRP Certification (when indicated for neonatal care). Additional licensure, certifications, and/or continuing education credits may be required during employment based on position and area of specialty. OR For Nurse Practitioners: Current Connecticut State Registered Nurse License. Current Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License. Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile. ACLS/BLS Certified (when indicated for position profile). DEA License (when indicated for position profile).
