Position Overview: 


Olson Toon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineer Design Manager to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for overseeing the design phase of civil engineering projects, ensuring the successful execution of designs, and managing a team of talented design professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering design, project management, and leadership, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality designs on time and within budget.


Who we are: Along with Engineering Design services, Olson Toon is a diverse construction company that performs site excavation, site utilities, site demolition, concrete foundations, concrete flatwork, and landscaping for projects of public infrastructure projects, single-family housing subdivisions, private commercial site developments.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the civil engineering design process for various projects, including site development, infrastructure, and transportation projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the design team to ensure the development of innovative and efficient design solutions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate design requirements and considerations into overall project plans.

Project Management:

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans for the design phase of projects.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate design-related risks, and implement strategies to address potential challenges.

Team Management:

  • Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of civil engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set performance goals, and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
  • Promote professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Client Interaction:

  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements, goals, and expectations during the design phase.
  • Present design concepts and solutions to clients and stakeholders, addressing concerns and incorporating feedback into the design process.

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of design deliverables.
  • Conduct design reviews to identify opportunities for improvement and implement best practices.

Collaboration:

  • Foster effective communication and collaboration within the engineering department and with other project teams.
  • Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery from design through construction.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Proven experience in civil engineering design with a focus on site development, infrastructure, and transportation projects.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including successful delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in relevant design software and tools.
