Digital Communications DirectorSenate President's Office, Maine State LegislatureThe Digital Communications Director shapes the Senate's digital communications program, helps communicate the President and caucus' priorities for the public, and employs innovative and bold strategies to find success within a constantly changing communications ecosystem. The Digital Communications Director works closely with the Press Secretary to promote defined objectives in a cohesive, engaging, and creative way, and manages the dissemination of clear information to Mainers about the policies that affect them.The ideal candidate is resourceful, adept at balancing and pivoting between multiple priorities, and can work successfully both as part of a team and independently. The staff of the Senate President's Office supports and enhances the work of Maine State Senators in the Democratic caucus as they serve their constituents and strive to have tangible, positive impacts on the lives of all Maine people.The Digital Communications Director's responsibilities include:Building out a strong and engaging digital program including:Planning and filming interviews and moderated conversationsGenerating and editing videos, graphics, and other content to be shared over social media networks, email outreach programs, and other digital media.Cultivating and maintaining an online media presence to elevate the work of the Maine Senate through various platforms, such as podcasts, Zoom studios, etc.Working with social media personalities and advocacy groups to elevate the Senate President and Democratic Senate members and messagingMonitoring the impact of the Senate's digital media program through the use of online metric and trend reportsWorking with the Senate Majority Office communications team to maintain messaging, ensure complementary digital communications plans between the two offices, and improve social media usage and online presence among SenatorsExploring and recommending new communications opportunities and strategiesOther duties as assignedPreferred skills & qualifications:Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (background in journalism, public relations, politics, government or state legislatures is preferred)Ability to create persuasive visual communications for use in online content, presentations, written reports, etc.Advanced filming and editing skills, including experience with graphic design for social media and proficiency in the following programs and platforms:Adobe Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)MailChimpWordPressCanvaExperience with social media management software such as Sprout SocialKnowledge of Maine's traditional and digital media landscapesPrevious background and demonstrated experience as a self-starter and the ability to work in a highly challenging, complex, fast-paced, and metrics-driven environmentAdvanced knowledge of the legislative process and the ability to communicate, coordinate, and work effectively with the public, members of the legislature, legislative staff, and executive branchThe deadline to apply is February 9, 2026.
