Equipment Maintenance Technician I

Description This position is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment in the Truck Driving and Diesel Technology programs. This position will perform routine inspections, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs as needed to ensure that equipment remains in excellent condition. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Inspect, maintain, and repair various Tractor/Trailer and Heavy Diesel Equipment program equipment and vehicles, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems to ensure that they are in safe and operational conditionDiagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, making necessary repairs or arranging for external repairs when required and authorized by the Associate DeanMaintain accurate records of equipment and vehicle inventory, including serial numbers, maintenance history, and replacement schedules. Maintain records of activities, repairs, and inspections, including generating reports on equipment status, maintenance schedules. Assist the Associate Dean with developing the annual equipment maintenance budget.Coordinate the procurement of replacement parts, supplies, and equipment in collaboration with the Associate DeanAssist in the development and implementation of safety protocols and procedures and provide necessary trainingWork with instructors and program staff to understand equipment needs for training purposes. Provide support during practical exercises and simulations as neededMonitor and maintain a clean and safe shop and work areaMaintain required certifications and keep current on emerging trendsAttend meetings and trainings as required. May assist with program recruitment efforts, such as semi-annual Open Houses events.Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must be able to drive vehicles to test drive for diagnosis after repairs or to deliver/pick-up equipmentKnowledge of specialized equipment, practices, and tools required for assigned program vehicles and equipment maintenanceAbility to think critically by applying problem solving practicesEffective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, technical and non-technical information, and listeningStrong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgroundsAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleaguesAbility to work independently, as part of a team and/or with minimal supervisionBasic level of proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and/or publishingEDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - LEVEL I:Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Associate's degree in a related field is preferredMinimum of two (2) years' work experience of diesel repair diagnosis and heavy equipment repair. Proven experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in Truck Driving and Diesel Technology, or similar fieldASE certifications preferred In evaluating candidates for this position, the College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the positionEmployment offer and continued employment is contingent upon a valid Wisconsin driver's license and acceptable driving recordValid CDL-A license required Supplemental Information All applicants must attach the following to the online application. 1.
