The Irvine Police Department is introducing our ICARE Team, a specialized mental health crisis response unit dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Our team will provide compassionate mental health services/assistance to clients, prioritizing client dignity, safety, and individual needs.
Your Impact
- Provides a safe, effective, and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Makes appropriate recommendations for living environments, therapy, psychiatrist visits, case management, and other services.
- Provides services to all residents referred based on their needs and preference.
- Documents and communicates interactions with members to other services team members as appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of community resources and assist members served in the appropriate use of community resources.
- Advocates for and accompany members when needed on long appointments, e.g., SSI, DMV, GR (General Relief), etc.
- Help members to understand their legal status and rights.
- Safeguard confidentiality; adhere to HIPAA policies.
- Provides transportation when needed and appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the boundaries of clients experiencing emotional distress.

- Demonstrates sensitivity to multicultural populations and issues.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Good computer/technology skills.
- Ability to assess safety risks.
- Ability to promote a positive, supportive recovery culture.
- Ability to engage clients and hold hope in the face of adversity.
- Ability to gain trust and build rapport with diverse populations.
- Ability to be patient and mindful.
- Knowledge of basic medical and psychiatric terminology.
- College coursework in business, office practices, or related field.
- Four years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to keep and maintain valid California driver‘s license.
- Experience in a mental health and/or dual diagnosis case management position (preferred).
- Bi-lingual Spanish or Mandarin (preferred).
- Knowledge of Orange County resources (housing, substance abuse, mental health, shelters, etc.)
- At least two years of case management experience.

The Process
The selection process may include an examination and will include an oral interview(s), Public Safety Background Investigation, and a medical exam prior to appointment. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
