Based in Atlanta, Georgia, DMF is the leading manufacturer and supplier of hi-rail equipment used to build and maintain the lifeline of the railroad. DMF began in 1972 as a family owned business and has continued to operate leading the railgear industry.

 

Role Description

 

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:

 

  1. Create, develop, and modify designs and drawings for metal fabrication products.
  2. Conduct feasibility studies and analyze data to assess product designs' potential for success.
  3. Develop engineering calculations for mechanical systems and components, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and loads and forces analysis.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and quality control, to ensure product designs meet customer specifications and industry regulations.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation.
  6. Travel up to 25% (Normal travel is around 10%, but flexibility to travel when needed is preferred)


This is a full-time in office role, located in Atlanta, GA, with flexibility for some remote work.

 

Qualifications

  • Design Engineering, Machine Design, and Mechanical Engineering skills
  • Product Design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills (Solidworks experience preferred)
  • Experience in metal fabrication and manufacturing industries
  • Experience with hydraulics, and pneumatics (basic level experience is acceptable)
  • Practical knowledge of tolerance analysis, material selection, and loads and forces analysis
  • Ability to develop accurate and detailed project documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Experience with project management software and methodologies is a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years in a design engineering role.
