Systems Validation Engineer

Our Indianapolis, IN Engineering team is looking for a Systems Validation Engineer to join our highly innovative engineering teams designing Autonomous Solutions for mobile equipment in the surface mining industry.

As a Systems Validation Engineer you will create and execute validation test plans on complex automation systems consisting of operator user interfaces, system software, and PLC control systems. You will report your findings to the Engineering teams and participate in design and usability improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute Validation Test cases and document defects found
  • Assign severity level of defects found based on pre-defined criteria
  • Lead and participate in design, installation, commissioning, and future upgrades of a specialized Testing/Validation Bench consisting of hardware, simulators, and other special tools
  • Load new software builds on the test bench set-up, update all subsystems with firmware and software ready for validation
  • Maintain a record of software compatibility matrix being tested
  • Troubleshoot software, configuration, and electrical issues found during testing
  • Interface with a global team of engineers and product support resources to successfully complete tasks
  • Apply all safety procedures and use proper safety equipment as needed
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment at all times.

Key Competencies:

  • 3+ years of similar job experience in the industry
  • PLC, HMI/SCADA, and/or SQL experience
  • Ability to land wires, use electrical measurement devices, and use hand tools
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics

Assets:

  • Previous experience with industrial and mobile equipment automation
  • Allen Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix experience
  • Industrial Communication Networks (EtherNet/IP, CanBus, SAEJ1939, DeviceNet)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Vault, and Inventor
  • Familiarity with the Agile execution model and methodologies
  • Familiarity with Jira
  • Familiar with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – ability to explain complex defects and designs in simple high-level terms
  • Drive Action, Teamwork, and Resilient attitude
  • Strong technical documentation skills
