PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for performing duties related to direct patient care including evaluation, treatment, and education of patients and coordination of patient’s healthcare needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Board-certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine.

2. Current licenses (Maryland/Virginia, CDS, DEA )

3. Current with CME as required by Maryland/Virginia.

4. Minimum of one-year experience preferably in an urgent care facility or primary care physician’s office.

5. Understanding of CPT codes and ICD coding

6. Understanding of OSHA and HIPPA regulations

7. Certification in ACLS

8. Excellent and effective verbal communication skills.

9. Customer service oriented attitude and behavior.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Independent decision-making regarding care and treatment of patients using knowledge of professional training and experience plus, guidelines provided by Medical Access and Medical Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

No direct supervisory responsibilities. However, indirect authority over clinical staff as orders are given for treatment of patients.

SCOPE:

1. Responsible for examining and treating patients and performing all other related duties and functions customary to an urgent care and primary care practice

2. Accountable to the Medical Director.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:

1. Uses universal precautions when tasks performed present the possibility of exposure to blood or body fluids; this includes appropriate personal protective equipment and work practices.

2. Position requires light work – exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.

NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

3. Participates in and coordinates with organizational process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices that are used to identify safety management issues. Adheres to established policies and procedures, which may include wearing of personal protective equipment.

4. Participates in and fosters an approach to continuously improving quality that includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities.

5. Has knowledge of clinical interventions and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Evaluates and treats patients as appropriate.

2. Orders lab, x-ray and other diagnostic tests.

3. Documents necessary information in patients’ medical charts as required complying with any laws, rules and regulations of any appropriated governmental agency or participating insurances.

4. Provides patient education and suggest follow-up care.

5. Writes referrals for specialty care and/or additional testing as needed. Works with insurances to get authorization.

6. Has ability to use the AED equipment.

7. Responsible for initial reads on X-rays.

8. Follow-ups with patients who have abnormal labs, x-ray or other diagnostic test results.

9. Completes all required paperwork.

10. Sutures patients as needed within Medical Access’s guidelines.

11. Appropriately administers prescriptions and keeps updated on latest pharmaceutical developments.

12. Keeps updated on continuing education requirements and strives to further develop physician competence.

13. Coordinates with companies regarding worker injury cases.

14. Assist with marketing and promoting the medical practice.

15. Understands and follows HIPAA regulations.

16. Attend meetings as and when scheduled.

17. Completes other duties as assigned.
