Team Leader Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Functions:
Please note this list is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned as necessary.
● Coordinate all aspects of services provided to supported persons. ● Appropriately implement and document programs and activities as described in the
Individual Plan of Service. ● Work with caregivers to ensure a Culture of Gentleness is evident, nurtured and maintained. ● Maintain all personal schedules of the supported persons. This includes: doctor appointments, community activities, job schedules, etc. ● Assist consumers in organizing: medical information, medical cards and budgeting of money. ● Develop staff schedules. ● The Team Leader is responsible for all fill-in shifts and on-call hours. ● Oversee all safety procedures in the home. This includes: completing incident reports, fire drills and other necessary safety precautions. ● Receive, review, process, file and submit a variety of documents and reports (e.g. personnel information, medical forms, visitation or contact sheets, goals, progress notes, CLS logs, daily data collection sheets, etc).
● Manage individual records and ensure that documentation by staff is correct and meets guidelines.
● Has input with hiring, firing and promotions. Assists with interviewing, selecting, and training employees. The Team Leader is empowered to make suggestions with personnel matters regarding the home they manage, as the manager knows the dynamics of the home and what would be a “good fit”.
● Ensures staff completes tasks while on duty, responsible for handling employee grievances or complaints and disciplines employees when necessary (May have input from the director).
● Report to Genesis if a problem has occurred in the home with staff, maintenance or other problems.
● Facilitate monthly teammeetings and in-service training sessions. ● Oversee staff time in the time/attendance system ● Responsible for staying within an allotted budget, which includes reducing overtime, etc. ● Plans what work to be done and determines the best way to run the home. ● Develop meal planning for consumers. ● Keep receipts and accurate logs of expenditures. ● Support management with paying bills and managing the supported person’s money. ● Assist with employee evaluations.
● Direct and supervise all activities of direct care staff. ● Instruct, assign, review and plan work for employees. ● Communicate and collaborate with various groups and individuals (e.g. Genesis, supervisor, subordinates, supports coordinator, physicians, nurses, consultants, neighbors, residents, families of residents, etc.).
● Monitors work for legal or regulatory compliance; i.e. (State/Federal, CMH, Recipient Rights, and/or MORC).
● Provides safety and security of the workplace. i.e. (emergencies, fire and tornado drills, visitors, etc.)
● Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all Genesis safety standards and regulations.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: ● Primary activities are conducted within supported person’s residence and in the community. ● Trips into the community require outdoor travel and potential exposure to unpleasant weather. ● Ability to do light housework and actively work with consumers. ● Must be able to operate equipment (e.g. wheel chairs, hand trucks).
Education/Experience: ● High School graduate or equivalent. ● Ability to work closely with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. ● Exhibit an understanding of and comply with the standards of accrediting bodies and the consumer’s Individual Plan of Service. ● Previous experience in direct care serving adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. ● Possess a good understanding of community resources and initiatives, especially those affecting individuals with developmental disabilities. ● MORC trained (or equivalent) desired. ● Certified BBP, First Aid, and CPR.
Knowledge and Skills: ● Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). ● Must be able to compose routine correspondence and reports. ● Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work. ● Computer Skills - Must have basic word processing (MSWord) and email usage skills. ● Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
● Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
● Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
