Position Purpose

The City of Arvada promotes Equal Pay for Equal Work. Starting salary will be determined by the applicant‘s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity. The range listed reflects the entire range and typical placement is entry to mid-range

A non-sworn position that handles non-emergency, criminal and non-criminal police reports, various support services and provides general customer service in the police lobbies or by telephone.

This is a job share position (one FTE split into two) that will be limited to 20 hours a week. Additional hours may be required to satisfy the full-time requirement of both part-time positions. Your days will be 2, 10-hour days (days may vary).

Paid benefits and accruals will only be paid out at 50%.

The interview process includes Application, Personal History Questionnaire, Interview(s), Polygraph, Background, and References.


Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Documents crime reports and records in the police database.

  • Conducts follow-up investigations on initiated incidents, recovered stolen vehicles and runaways.

  • Interviews crime victims and other persons requesting information related to police services.

  • Assists in specialized projects/assignments such as sex offender registration, records data entry, and supply ordering.

  • Fingerprints citizens, employees and liquor license applicants.

  • Process dog licenses, VIN verifications and police report requests.

  • Serves as an information resource and provides customer service to citizens seeking police and other city services.

  • Mediates civil disputes.

  • Collects and logs-in property and evidence.

  • Monitors entrance/access into Police buildings.

  • Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.

  • Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.

  • Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of investigation processes and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.

  • Good computer skills.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Drive city vehicles or operate other transportation devices.

  • Prepare and testify in court.

  • May work unusual hours.

  • Balance cash register

  • Other duties as required.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:

Receives minimal supervision under the direction of the police civilian operations supervisor. Plans daily work activities and prioritizes tasks; expected to evaluate and respond to new situations that require immediate attention. Plans own work and the work of others to meet defined work plans and objectives. Defined procedures cover most duties; expected to deal with different and specialized situations in job function.


Financial Accountability:

Receipts money and may have a P-card with purchasing authority up to $500.00. Makes recommendations to supervisor for budget allocations pertaining to their department assignment.


Qualifications - Working Environment / Minimum Qualifications

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

The work environment/physical activities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

Work is primarily performed in an office and/or an outside environment with low to moderate noise levels. Physical effort and activities include: Light physical effort in handling objects 10 to 20 pounds occasionally and on rare occasions over 40 pounds.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE):

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years customer service experience required. Valid Colorado driver license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior Law Enforcement or City government experience preferred.
