International Student Advisor International Services JOB SUMMARY: The International Student Advisor serves as a key member of the university’s international support team. This role provides direct services to international students to help them navigate academic, cultural, social, and immigration challenges while maintaining lawful visa status. The advisor ensures institutional compliance with federal regulations related to international students and fosters a welcoming and supportive environment for the university's global community. SALARY INFROMATION: In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University. REPORTS TO: Executive Director of International Services RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Immigration Compliance and Advising Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) under the F-1 visa program in accordance with federal regulations. Advise international students and their dependents on maintaining lawful status, including matters related to enrollment, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), international travel, program extensions, reinstatement, and change of status. Maintain accurate and timely records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), ensuring full compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements. Monitor student enrollment, academic progress, and all SEVIS-reportable events, initiating updates and required reporting in a timely and compliant manner. Review and determine the eligibility of admitted and current international students; issue and update Form I-20s for enrollment, employment authorization, program changes, and international travel. Interpret and apply complex federal immigration regulations to resolve a wide range of student cases, including status violations, reinstatements, changes of status, and employment-related issues, requiring thorough knowledge of F-1 visa policies and procedures. Student Support and Engagement Contribute to student learning, development, progression, and the timely completion of educational goals through individualized advising and program support. Respond to the needs of students by connecting them with appropriate services and resources through referrals, collaboration, and consultation with institutional partners. Collaborate with campus departments to design and deliver workshops and programs focused on international student orientation, intercultural learning, and career readiness. Refer students to appropriate on- and off-campus resources for academic and personal support. Participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of strategic initiatives and special projects that support the needs and interests of international students. Outreach and Education Serve as a liaison to Adelphi academic and administrative units, representing the Office of International Services. Represent the office at campus events, orientation, and other programs to enhance visibility and promote international student support services. Assist with the reporting, assessment, and planning of international programs and services to support continuous improvement and strategic development. Administrative and Institutional Compliance Ensure the accuracy and integrity of student data across case management systems, including Terra Dotta (TDS). Support audits and updates to internal policies and procedures related to international student compliance. Assist in the preparation of required reports for federal agencies and institutional stakeholders. Stay informed of changing immigration policies and regulations and contribute to the office’s timely and appropriate response to emerging issues. Ensure adherence to professional standards and alignment with the mission and goals of the department and the broader institution. Performs other job related duties as assigned. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of one to three years of experience advising international students and managing SEVIS compliance in a higher education setting. Working knowledge of F-1 visa regulations and federal reporting requirements. Strong organizational, analytical, and data management skills.
