Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's in human services preferred.
  • Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a multistate CORI, driving record, reference check, employment verification, and education background checks.


What you'll do:

  • Assist 18-24 individuals in choosing, getting and keeping paid work
  • Orient Mental Health Teams to benefits of employment, and encourage referral for employment supports
  • Offer information to persons served by mental health teams as needed/requested
  • Establish relationships with employers to assist them in finding, hiring, and supporting success of qualified candidates
  • Coordinate with State Vocational Rehab and provide documentation to support achievement of employment-related benchmarks
  • Assist persons served to develop and use the required skills and supports needed to job success
  • Ensure needed supports through referral and/or service provision, including transportation to workplace, management of work incentives, and consultation with employers and mental health service providers
  • Position requires use of a vehicle for transportation of persons served to interviews and employment related appointments
  • Position requires basic digital literacy related to use of Windows-based applications, a wide variety of employer application and hiring portals, and written documentation of performance-related benchmark and outcome data.
  • Successful candidate will expect to spend 60% of time or more in community based settings with employers and people served


The Community Employment Specialist helps qualified people with mental health challenges return to work in community jobs aligned with career goals. In this role, you'd combine encouragement, motivational support and practical help to job seekers, while developing relationships with employers that help them solve workforce challenges. The Employment Specialist is trained to provide career planning, job search skills, job placement and retention services, and job and career coaching for people with disabilities.

The Community Employment Specialist works collaboratively with a team consisting of the Mass Rehab Commission (MRC) Counselor, the job seeker's Mental Health Outreach Team, and others to support successful employment outcomes.


Preferences:

  • Experience in employment and training, human resources, counseling, marketing or vocational rehabilitation programs preferred.
  • Experienced direct care staff preferred.
