This is a fulltime position with Los Angeles Unified School District. The Demographic Research & Planning Specialist is responsible for collecting researching and yzing a broad range of demographic data sources including student records and population data sets. Key duties include generating reports using statistical ysis to develop student projections essing demographic research and participating in summaries. The role also involves yzing proposals for attendance zone changes responding to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data and maintaining quality control of maps and doents. Required experience includes at least five years of professional experience in research mapping or data ysis with a preference for experience in school or enrollment data. A bachelors degree in urban planning mathematics geography economics or a related field is required along with proficiency in statistical ods Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the collection research and ysis of a broad range of demographic data sources such as student records population data sets obtained from the district and local and state agencies
  • Generate reports graphs and charts to collate information collected and develop presentations
  • Use statistical ysis and develop student projections and enrollment by school or cluster formproposed boundary changes
  • Compile and ess demographic research and statistical studies involving projections in enrollment fluctuations at schools and various areas in the district
  • Participate in summaries and other written materials to ensure the access to demographic information and allow stakeholders to make informed decisions
  • yze proposals for attendance zone changes and its effect on planning for school construction projects
  • Respond to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data including demographic and geographic issues from district staff and outside agencies
  • Participate in field onsite surveys to determine demographic and geographic student population data and project clroom capacities
  • Develop and maintain zone grid maps to determine school locations boundaries for the district
  • Maintains quality control of maps and doents
  • Performs other related tasks required.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years fulltime paid professional experience in research mapping or data ysis in demography urban planning statistics geography or any related field.
  • Experience in compiling and yzing school or enrollment data is preferred

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree in urban planning mathematics geography economics or related field

Knowledge/Ss:

  • Statistical ods of ysis
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related computer software such as ArcGIS10
  • Mapping concepts and techniques in cartography
  • Research ods principles and graphic presentations
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Best practices and terminologies in demography
