Senior Piping Designer

Technical Knowledge

• Proficient at AutoCAD, including 3D. Experience with Plant 3D highly preferred
• Demonstrated experience in the development of piping and plant layout drawings and documents that include general arrangements, orthographics, isometrics and overall 3-D design.
• Experience with P&ID and PFD development
• Detail understanding of 3-D design approaches including such fundamentals as layering, libraries, etc.
• Knowledge in the translation & transition from P&ID’s to piping design documents.
• Knowledge in developing complete mechanical systems & piping related drawing packages as part of construction packages.
• Core understanding of dimensional discipline.
• Ability to create and manage documents such as piping index, valve lists, installation details, utility details & manifolds, location details, pipe hangar details, specialty details, pipe shoes, and other pipe stress related information. (Pipe stress performed by pipe stress engineers – designer implements in the design based on guidance).

Qualifications

• High School diploma
• Petrochemical refinery / chemical / pipe line industry experience.
• Experience with equipment layout / piping and pipe support design & construction packages.
• P&ID and PFD development.
• Orthographics / Isometrics / 3-D models.
• A strong understanding of the piping codes & standards including API, PIP and ASME.
• TWIC card highly preferred or ability to get
• Ability to work in heavy industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes/practices.

Non-Technical Skills

• Ability to optimize design, educate engineer(s) on best approach
• Attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks by frequency and importance
• Supervise other designers - Senior Designer II can lead other discipline designers
• Ability to develop or assist engineers in developing the construction scopes of work.
• Coach & mentor Designers & Engineers
• Can estimate designer hours for project-related tasks for proposal development.
• Can run design only projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
