⚡ Lead Battery Design Engineer

Battery Manufacturing | GreenTech

Location: Boston


An exciting opportunity to join at Lithium-Ion Battery scale-up as their Lead Battery Design Engineer and support with the launch of their cell technology. With $100M in the bank, they are on a mission to scale and further support the energy storage revolution by re-inventing current battery manufacturing methods and products.


They looking for an innovative to join their growing team and taking a lead on the mechanical design, refine and modification of their li-ion cells as well general product development to manufacturability and performance of their products.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead project from concept cell design through to full scale production.
  • Incorporate R&D improvements and other needs into product design changes
  • Maintain product documentation according their standards.
  • Coordinate with the Advanced Manufacturing team to develop mechanical cell designs that push performance barriers while maintaining manufacturability
  • Perform design validation testing on components and assemblies
  • Complete technical reports and communicate results to the broader team and partner organizations
  • Design and source tools and fixtures as needed
  • Ability to execute quickly on high visibility projects with aggressive timelines


Qualifications:


  • BS OR MS in Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and validation of lithium ion cells.
  • Familiarity with common battery manufacturing processes including ultrasonic welding, laser welding, heat sealing, etc.
  • Experience using DFMEA to identify and address risk areas early in the design phase.
  • Pack and module design experience is a plus.
  • Experience designing cells for enhanced abuse tolerance is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Solidworks preferred
  • Proficiency with GD&T.
  • Ability to project cell properties from given electrode properties.
