Job Details:
PurposeThe position will work in the UTHS Student Services department and help coordinate psychological services with our staff, students, and families. This position is responsible for the evaluation, interpretation of results and participation in eligibility decisions for students with disabilities, as part of the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee in consultation with parents, students, and staff. The incumbent is also responsible for helping to ensure school personnel and parents comply with all applicable rules and regulations for special education and the continued support and management of the evaluation program. This position will utilize a variety of evaluation instruments for educational programming of eligible students. This position may have supervisory responsibilities for interns and trainees. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, this position may be eligible for a partially remote work schedule.
ResponsibilitiesAssessment /Evaluation
Virtually and in-person, select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students.
Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
Develop evaluation reports and behavior management plans and share with parents, students, and staff.
Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
Support and implement the special education assessment process for students and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Consultation
Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results. Identify and facilitate local or state resources for student, parent and transition supports.
Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students, interpretation of assessment data, and implementation of plans to support student success including educational programs, interventions, and strategies.
Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, state, and local community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, transitional, and behavioral support for students as needed.
Participate in and present staff development training to improve job related skills and enable school personnel to identify and work more effectively with students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
Consult and collaborate with the Director of Student Services to support psychological services.
Program Management
Develop, report on, and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings.
Participate in the selection of assessment materials, technology, and equipment for the district.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories for the district.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Supervise, monitor, and mentor interns and trainees.
Other duties as assigned by administration.
Master‘s degree in psychology from accredited college or university. Valid Texas license as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Knowledge of state and Federal Special Education law. Knowledge of the ARD process. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Skilled in working effectively under timelines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Skilled in maintaining accurate and compliant student records. Skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skilled in Microsoft Office, including MS Excel, and web applications. Knowledge of state testing requirements and procedures. Skilled in developing effective and compliant IEPs. Strong organizational skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications3+ years of experience providing psychological services in the Texas public school system, and/or experience in a variety of educational settings. Experience and willingness to mentor and supervise interns. Experience with online and virtual environments and evaluations. Strong interpersonal skills.
Salary Range$65,000+ depending on qualifications
