In addition to a generous benefits package, Community College Police Officers receive the following stipends:Variable Schedule and Shift Differential Stipend - 5% to 10%Uniform Maintenance Allowance - $75 per monthFirearm Maintenance Allowance - $50 per monthHandgun Proficiency Allowance - $50 per monthEducational stipend earned during employment - 8% maximumSpecial Skills Differential pay - 7.5% maximumAdditional benefits include the following:13 paid holidays plus 40 hours of floating holidays*12 paid vacation days*12 paid illness days*Fully paid medical, dental, and vision-care coverage (including eligible dependents)Free mental health support through the Employee Assistance Service for Education (EASE) program.5% increase in base pay for every 5 years worked with SMC, up to 40 years of service.Bilingual Pay Differential - $35 to $45 per monthWaived tuition fees for classes taken at Santa Monica College.Reimbursement for related classes, conferences or workshops to empower your professional development.Free Big Blue Bus access and monthly incentives for eligible employees through the Sustainable Transportation Incentive ProgramMembership in the California Public Employee Retirement System - (Contact CALPERS to inquire about the Safety Retirement Formula)*Benefits, holidays, vacation, and illness days listed above assume a 40-hour per week, 12-month per year schedule. Benefits, vacation and illness days are prorated for other work schedules.All qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process will consist of a Physical Agility Test (pass/fail) and a Qualifications Appraisal Interview (100%). Candidates must be successful on both the Physical Agility Test and the oral interview for their name to appear on the eligibility list. The names of the successful finalists will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order according to score, and the first three ranks of finalists will be invited to return for a final selection interview. Santa Monica College reserves the right to modify the stated examination components and weight prior to the administration of any examination.
