Your Role with Us:

Salem Health Medical Group is seeking a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and/or General Surgeon to join our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program.

We are an all-encompassing trauma and acute care surgery and elective general surgery program. Our practice consists of nineteen (19) surgeons and nine (9) advanced practice providers who offer a combination of critical care, inpatient and outpatient services at varying capacities. Salem Hospital is a level II trauma center, with over 2,000 trauma activations annually. Our team performs approximately 2,700 acute and elective cases each year. Salem Hospital has one of the busiest emergency rooms on the west coast, seeing approximately 120,000 patients annually, thus providing a high volume of diverse and complex trauma and acute care surgery cases. The counties we service are the fastest growing counties in Oregon, leading to a large referral base for elective surgery opportunities.

Qualified candidates should expect a variable schedule, shift based, hospital-based position. Our service is supported by many sub-specialties, such orthopedics, neurosurgery, procedural gastroenterology, interventional radiology, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, OBGYN, GYN ONC and urology. You would be joining a team of surgeons who love what they do, are supportive of one another and foster collegiality amongst other service lines.

Background/Expertise:

  • Graduated from an approved Allopathic or Osteopathic school of medicine (MD or DO)
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in general surgery
  • Candidate must complete an accredited critical care fellowship to cover ICU shifts
  • Demonstrate experience and current competency, to include the performance of at least 100 general surgical procedures in the past 24 months
  • Skilled in all aspects of emergency general surgery and trauma including initial trauma evaluation and resuscitation, exploratory laparotomy, damage control surgery, bowel resection, thoracotomy, thoracoscopy, basic laparoscopy, incisional drainage, excisional debridement, wound management including vacuum assisted wound care, vascular access, sepsis resuscitation, surgical critical care and emergency surgical airways
  • For outpatient/elective services, must be proficient in advanced laparoscopy, robot experience welcomed
  • Hold board certification in surgery by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, and Critical Care Boards (if applies) or are eligible to obtain within five (5) years from completion of the applicable residency and/or fellowship program.
  • Hold/able to obtain unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Oregon
  • Hold current DEA certificate
  • Hold current ATLS and ACLS certification
