POSITION SUMMARY
FUI is seeking an assistant footwear designer to work with our senior Baretraps footwear designer and team. The ideal candidate will be able to sketch using the tech software available and is interested in the next generation design technologies such as 3D prints and AI technologies. Shoe designers are responsible for creating the look and feel of shoes. They work with a variety of materials, including leathers, fabrics, plastics and other synthetic materials to create footwear that is both stylish and functional. Additionally, this position will be responsible for a wide variety of duties relating to product development specifications, managing, and maintaining data surrounding Baretraps styles through all phases of the lifecycle of each style created.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- To be responsible for and to manage and coordinate aspects of Baretraps samples throughout all phases of the lifecycle of each style.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with our manufacturing teams and factories.
- Work with executives, customer service, account executives, pricing, procurement, and customers providing information and service as required.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Develop sketches of shoe designs and drawings of materials to be used in production.
- Develop CAD’s with the China team and create CAD decks.
- Build and control line sheets.
- Review past collections to identify trends in style or design elements.
- Conduct market research via the internet and through shopping trips.
- Design shoes that are fashionable and appealing to customers while understanding how price plays into the product.
- Analyze customer feedback on previous designs to improve future designs.
- Create computer models of designs using specialized software programs.
- Work with manufacturers to construct shoe designs using materials such as leather, rubber, fabric or plastic.
- Design prototypes of shoes, boots, sandals, or other footwear items.
- Write sample specs.
- Ability to work and build and maintain material files creating a material library.
- Will work closely with China team, designers, and research team.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related field preferred.
- Sketching ability necessary.
- AI design experience/interest preferred.
- Strong eye for detail.
- Creativity and innovation are a must.
- Knowledge of shoe materials such as leather, fabric, rubber, plastic, etc. is preferred.
- Strong experience working with a team and professional and effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively work within computer aided design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- This position will require sitting for long periods of time, walking, standing, and bending, as well as using fine motor skills, such as finger dexterity for typing or calculator use.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The majority of this job will be spent indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
