Voice Instructor Position
Musicians Playground (MP), located in Downtown Crossing, is hiring for a voice instructor to join its mission in offering music lovers of all ages the opportunity to fall in love with learning and making music.
You will be a critical part of the organization, teaching adults & children in-studio and working closely with management to head all initiatives related to the voice department’s growth.
Who We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate possesses the following skills & abilities:
Minimum Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree from a leading music institution (must be within 6 months of graduation or have graduated already).
- Ability to sing a range of contemporary genres at a professional level.
- The ability to play piano at an intermediate level/to comfortably accompany students' during their lessons.
- Previous teaching experience in both private and group settings.
- A passion for coaching children ages 5 and up.
- Love and experience working with hobbyists.
- Experience performing in a band/leading a band.
- Strong leadership & communication skills.
- Our ideal candidate views music to be a medium for fun, social connection, and personal transformation.
- They provide an exciting, safe & supportive place for all to discover their inner musician.
- Their lessons are expressive, engaging, creative, and inspiring.
Bonus Skills & Abilities:
- Prior classes in music in education/pedagogy.
- The ability to play multiple instruments.
- Past experience in customer service.
- Experience with arranging, music production & sound.
Role Responsibilities:
- Teaching adults & children in group & private settings in-studio.
- Client scheduling, communications, and support.
- Attending meetings with staff on an as-needed basis.
- Checking all communication channels daily and responding in a timely manner.
- Co-leading our music-based team-building event, Battle of the Bands.
- Assisting with preparing and overseeing special events.
- Assisting in social media and curriculum development initiatives.
- Arranging music on an as-needed basis for clients & staff.
- Assisting with sound and set up for special events.
Schedule
The role will require a minimum availability of 12 hours per week during peak hours (Monday - Thursday 3PM-9PM, Friday 3PM-7PM + Saturday/Sunday 9AM-5PM) with the potential to have as many clients/hours as desired based on demand & performance.
On a periodic basis, MP hosts events for its clients outside of normal teaching hours (Fridays & Sundays). All teachers are required to attend these and will be given a minimum of 1 month’s notice to plan ahead for them.
Minimum Commitment
The minimum commitment for this position is one year, however our ideal candidate sees themself wanting to grow in their role and with Musicians Playground for the long term.
Pay & Benefits
Pay structure & benefits are based on experience, performance, and longevity with the company but typically start as follows:
$40/hr-$50/hr | For group classes & team building events
$30/hr-$40/hr | For private & semi-private lessons
$15/hr-$20/hr | For administrative tasks & training
