Job Title: Director of Accounting and Finance

Location: Hybrid, East Side

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Position Type: Full-time


Job Overview:

Our client, a world-class general contractor, is seeking a seasoned construction accounting and finance executive to oversee the Accounting & Finance Department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction accounting, demonstrate strong leadership abilities, and possess a deep understanding of complex financial operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Management: Oversee all functions of the Accounting department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed asset management, and bank reconciliations.
  • Financial Reporting: Manage the preparation of monthly financial statements and job profitability analysis.
  • Forecasting and Liquidity Planning: Advise on short and long-term liquidity planning through cash flow forecasting. Maintain cash flow forecasting models and regularly provide reports and briefs on actual vs. budget to senior leaders.
  • Job Costing and Revenue Recognition: Oversee job costing and maintain revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, coach, and supervise the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain and improve the company’s existing internal control environment.
  • Tax Compliance: Supervise the preparation of sale, use, and property tax returns.
  • Interdepartmental Support: Respond to other departments' inquiries for financial information.
  • Tax Coordination: Coordinate annual federal income tax preparation and prepare detailed schedules for the CPA firm.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience in public accounting and/or private industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction industry required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role.


Skills:

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, all accounting responsibilities and concepts applicable to construction contractors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong financial modeling, budgeting and forecasting skills.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Strong business management and organizational skills.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base pay range: Base between $140,000 to $180,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Bonus: Eligible for the Company’s semi-annual bonus plan.  
  • 401K Plan: Eligibility to enroll upon hire with a 3% employer safe harbor contribution, subject to company plan and IRS guidelines.
  • Health Benefits: 100% employer-paid premium for medical, dental, vision, and group life insurance, effective from the first day of the month after the start date. Option to add family coverage at employee’s cost.
  • Paid Time Off: Three weeks of vacation per year.
