Position: Principal Steam Path Repair Engineer

The Principal Steam Path Repair Engineer is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing the inspection and repair process for steam turbines for in-shop condition assessment and repair oversight. In this role, the Principal Engineer will lead projects as well as the development and implementation of applicable processes with a focus on repair quality, cost, and cycle time. Principal Engineer is a strategic level role within the engineering organization with expectations to influence corporate goals and growth initiatives through technical insight and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages all steam turbine repair projects for large utility to small industrial units from project initiation / scoping, through condition assessment and repairs, to completion.
  • Establish a wide variety of repair scopes in cooperation with the shop leadership and central engineering organization.
  • Oversee the execution of repairs in the shop and ensure all engineering requirements are met, including vendor technical oversight.
  • Establish and maintain sound processes for Turbine Repairs. This includes maintaining and expanding existing procedures.
  • Manages schedules and milestones for all aspects of shop repairs, parts, and services.
  • Analyzes component non-conformances and submits repair recommendations for corrective action.
  • Develop new repairs concepts to grow business offerings. This includes testing and validation of those new processes.
  • Creates Work Instructions, Travelers, drawings and data forms to support projects for shop personnel.
  • Provides engineering support to Field Service teams to ensure successful project execution and completion.
  • Partners with customer for entire duration of project, while providing complete support for all customer needs for status updates and final reporting.
  • Strive to eliminate potential for re-work, clearly communicate re-work events to management in the context of engineering.
  • Attend Customer Site Visits, Pre-Bid/Outage Planning/Post Outage/Lessons Learned Meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the business.

Position Requirements:

  • Steam turbine Subject Matter Expert knowledge with 10 or more years of related experience.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including the us of various engineering tools and systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and capable of competently communicating with all stakeholders in the process, i.e. customers, field service, manufacturing, and the commercial teams through technical writing and reporting.
  • Displays good interpersonal skills – is approachable, accessible, and works well as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, delegating when appropriate.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks PDM, administrator preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime during peak outage seasons, as needed to support the shop work.
