JOB OVERVIEW
The incumbent is a dedicated and passionate analyst who supports STAAR environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and compliance programs. This role will advance STAAR’s ESG data gathering, analysis and reporting capabilities to comply with new and emerging regulations and help define and guide STAAR’s ESG program, strategies, and goals. This role will support the existing cross-functional ESG team and work with internal contributors and outside consultants to advise on integrating sustainability considerations into core business and risk mitigation strategies. This role will also help support STAAR’s compliance activities and programs, including environmental, health and safety (EH&S) and privacy. This role will be located in STAAR’s Lake Forest, CA headquarters.
Key Responsibilities:
• Managing ESG data gathering and tracking for internal and external reporting (including for GHG emissions).
• Working with internal contributors and outside consultants to identify and understand current and emerging ESG regulations and applicable ESG reporting requirements.
• Supporting preparation of ESG reports for regulatory compliance and public disclosure, including STAAR’s sustainability report.
• Helping define and guide strategies and goals for the ESG program.
• Assessing ESG practices within the organization, including benchmarking against metrics and standards.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate ESG considerations into business strategies and operations.
• Participating in stakeholder engagement activities related to ESG practices, including employee training
• Contributing to the development and communication of ESG policies and initiatives.
• Supporting compliance activities, training and programs, including EH&S and privacy.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, Finance/Accounting or a related field
EXPERIENCE
• At least 2+ years’ experience working on sustainability projects as a researcher or analyst or in a similar role like financial reporting, environmental impact, or regulatory/legal project management.
• Experience working with large datasets and the ability to synthesize and interpret data into meaningful and material conclusions.
SKILLS
• General knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and reporting methodologies.
• Self-motivated, with interest in and passion for ESG.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis and research.
• Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills, and the ability to learn new technology applications.
• Detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to communicate in a wide variety of communication styles and to influence and build consensus across cross-functional groups.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
