Plastics Design Engineer

Achilles USA’s core business is to manufacture specialized plastic films that are used in thousands of products and hundreds of industries. Our films are produced using PVC, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, or Urethane. The applications vary from IMAX Movie Screens to Medical Devices. The parent company of Achilles USA (The Achilles Corporation) is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of specialized plastic films and synthetic leather.
Achilles USA is a looking for a collaborative Plastics Design Engineer to join our team. This Design Engineer will be collaborating with our sales department to develop new products to meet customer needs. A successful Design Engineer would have a strong attention to detail, enjoy collaborating with others and be extremely organized.
Essential Functions:
- Develop new formulations to meet customer and process requirements as per established procedures, and conduct any confirmation testing (heat stability, printing, weathering, etc.).
- Create new product part masters via Design and Test Requests – assign appropriate formula, optimize packaging and palletizing, and cost using appropriate speed.
- Evaluate new raw materials (direct offsets, cost-down alternatives) and create Tech Reports based on any testing, observations and conclusions.
- Assist Quality and Production departments in investigating and reporting on non-conforming material.
- Assign used compound (UC) codes to recipes and formulate in UC to reduce scrap inventory.
- Perform color matching for customer provide sample, Pantone, and in the case of obsolete pigments in formulations.
- Assist Sr. Development Engineers in Priority Project work, including but not limited to part creation, attending test productions, setting up internal testing and writing test releases.
- Complete any regulatory requests and stay current on major regulation updates.
- Meet with customers and suppliers onsite, and travel to visit customers and attend trade shows and seminars.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s in an Engineering field or other related field.
Experience
- Manufacturing engineering work experience is preferred but not required.
