How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

We are seeking a Foreperson, SCADA Communications technician to provide work direction for all electronic technicians for the maintenance of Metro Transit‘s Light Rail Transit (LRT) communications system. The Foreperson works with maintenance and operations to coordinate and plan activities necessary to provide appropriate system performance. This position also performs work related to the installation, adjustment calibration, testing fabrication, preventative maintenance, on-line troubleshooting and repair of all electronic systems of LRT Communications.

Position is for 2nd shift Foreperson; SCADA Communications Hours are 1:45 pm to 10:00 pm.

Hourly Pay Range: Internal hires will follow Metropolitan Council‘s union wage guidelines. This position is at the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Wage Class 82 pay range and top pay of $47.11/hour per the ATU Contract.



What you would do in this job

  • Responsible for identifying current and future maintenance requirements including coordination of major repairs, inspections and modifications and monitoring associated contracts.
  • Monitors maintenance activities to ensure compliance with maintenance goals. Take necessary action to ensure that maintenance standards are attained.
  • Keeps Supervisor/Manager informed of maintenance progress through verbal and written communications.
  • Assists Supervisor/Manager SCADA Comm & Signals in establishing, implementing and accomplishing technical performance objectives.
  • Recommends and implements company practices and procedures related to the LRT and communications system maintenance.
  • Develops, recommends and implements both routine and emergency work procedures; ensures that all concerned parties are aware of maintenance or repair work which may affect the current shift, operations, other departments and appropriate outside agencies.
  • Monitors troubleshooting and repairs of the LRT communications system failures.
  • Participates in the development of maintenance training materials, maintenance procedures and maintenance budgets, conduct technical training.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and safe work practices in all working situations; prepares reports on any incidents or emergencies which may occur and participates in meetings, discussing such incidents; establishes guidelines and ensures compliance with quality standards, methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains quality assurance by ensuring that inspections are conducted, statistics are reported; and that all electronic maintenance work for the LRT communication system is performed in an efficient and proper manner.
  • Operates maintenance equipment as required for training and maintenance activities.
  • Internal ATU candidates must have a good work record in order to be eligible for transfer
  • Other duties as assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

High school diploma/GED AND five (5) years or more of work experience related to electrical/electronic technology or computer science

OR

Associates degree or higher in electrical/electronic technology or computer science AND three (3) or more verifiable years of related work experience

What additional skills and experiences would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):

  • Previous instruction development and presentation experience.
  • Two (2+) plus years lead or Foreperson experience.
Licensure Requirement:
  • Valid class ‘A‘ Commercial Driver‘s License with acceptable driving record and ability to meet ongoing DOT Physical Requirements.

  • Must meet ongoing educational and training requirements.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of general industrial safety rules and regulation
  • Ability to perform maintenance repair, troubleshooting and testing of the communications systems
  • Ability to interpret electronic, electro-mechanical schematic and control circuit diagrams
  • Ability to develop and conduct instruction programs
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply union contract
  • PC skills, Windows and Microsoft Office applications experience
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to pass physical examinations, Rail Operations Rule Book and physical agility examinations and successfully complete Rail Operator Training Program for Maintenance Personne

Physical Requirements: This position requires lifting up to fifty pounds and up to one hundred pounds with assistance. Standing, walking, sitting, talking, or hearing; using hand to finger, handle or feel; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and may be required to enter confined spaces, reaching with hands and arms are required for this position.

What your work environment will be: Must be able to work first and second shift, weekends depending upon seniority. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor setting and will be required to travel between primary work sites to other sites. Must work in extreme warm and cold outdoor weather conditions. This position works near moving parts or equipment and works in high precarious places where there is a risk of electrical shock.
