Department Counseling & Psychological Svc College College of Education & Human Development Campus Atlanta Position Type Full Time Faculty Posting Type Internal/External About the Department The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services, located in the College of Education and Human Development, is an urban-based, multidisciplinary department that consists of the following CACREP accredited master‘s programs: School Counseling (M.Ed), Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.S), Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (M.S.). Additionally, the CPS department offers advanced degree programs in School Psychology (Ed.S. & Ph.D.), Counseling Psychology (Ph.D.), and Counselor Education and Practice (Ph.D.).Our mission is to advance the fields of counseling and psychology by promoting rigorous research, applying evidence-based treatments, and advocating for effective social policies. We are dedicated to preparing distinguished professionals who use empirically validated methods to support and enhance the well-being of the communities they serve. Through our commitment to scholarship and advocacy, we aim to achieve prominent prevention, intervention, and treatment outcomes for all individuals. Position Description The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services seeks highly qualified candidates to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the College of Education and Human Development beginning in August 2025.

The successful candidate will have a strong research in and/or clinical background with children and adolescents. The candidate will be expected to teach core and specialty graduate-level counseling courses in the 60 credit hour, CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling and/or School Counseling program(s) with opportunities to collaborate with other faculty and programs across the department. Additional responsibilities include mentoring, service to the program, department, college, university, and the profession, as well as robust scholarly activity.This candidate is also expected to serve as core faculty member in the department‘s doctoral program in Counselor Education and Practice. Required Experience Assistant Tenure-Track Professor Position: No prior experience is required.

Associate Tenure-Track Professor Position: A minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching at the graduate level is required. Required Education Candidates must have an earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) Position:
  • Active participation in research activities, including scholarship and professional presentations related to counseling, counselor training, and/or counselor education
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at either the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Have an earned doctorate from a CACREP=accredited Counselor Education program
  • Paid clinical experience as a clinical mental health counselor or school counselor
  • Active involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
  • Be license-eligible in the State of Georgia


Associate Professor (Tenure-Track) Position:
  • Documented teaching effectiveness at the graduate level
  • History of scholarly activity involving a consistent research line related to counseling, counselor training, and/or counselor education
  • Active involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
  • Be license-eligible in the State of Georgia
  • Shows evidence of sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling and evidence of professional service and advocacy in counseling

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge:o Expertise in clinical mental health counseling and/or school counseling practices and ethical guidelines.o Knowledge of developmental stages and specific needs of children and adolescentso Understanding of play therapy and its applications (preferred).

* Skills:o Strong teaching skills with the ability to design and deliver graduate-level counseling courses.o Effective mentorship skills for graduate students.o Ability to develop and maintain a focused line of research and secure external funding.o Proficient in conducting and publishing scholarly research.
* Abilities:o Ability to serve as core faculty in a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Practice.o Ability to teach counseling-related courses across the curriculum.o Capable of providing service to the program, department, college, university, and profession.o Ability to engage in robust scholarly activity and maintain a track record of professional development.
