Position Description

Bluebird Kids Health is seeking a visionary clinical operations leader with a patient and family-first mindset to lead the design and development of a best-in-class enterprise access and remote care platform called the CARES Center. This platform offers comprehensive access to resources, education, and support to our children and their families. This role will design and orchestrate a broad range of services extending beyond a traditional in-bound call center to encompass remote urgent care, virtual behavioral health, population health management, clinical pharmacy, and care coordination and provider enablement services. Reporting to the COO and collaborating closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and our Head of Product and Technology, the Head of Patient Access and Centralized Clinical Operations will be a key leader of the clinical operations team charged with leveraging technology and delivering services that enhance patient outcomes, create an exceptional experience for our children and their families, lower total medical spending, and drive growth of the company.


What You’ll Do

  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic and operational plan for the CARES Center to provide integrated, patient-centered services in a virtual environment. Analyze market trends, patient demographics, and industry best practices to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Operational Management: Design and oversee all operational aspects of the center. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of on-site and remote access center teammates. Responsible for developing and managing to budgets. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to access team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Monitor access center productivity and performance and adjust processes and workloads to ensure the team is meeting patient service and business goals.
  • Care Delivery: In close collaboration with the CMO and COO, design workflows, clinical algorithms and protocols to support the delivery of high-quality, safe, high-touch, remote urgent care and integrated behavioral health care services.
  • Population Health Management: Design and guide the centralized population health management team to ensure comprehensive care and preventive services.
  • Clinical Pharmacy Oversight: Design and manage the clinical pharmacy services for medication management, ensuring the highest standards of pediatric care.
  • Care Coordination: Design and lead care coordination and provider enablement services, facilitating seamless patient journeys and quality outcomes.
  • Team Development: Recruit, train, and mentor a diverse team to deliver compassionate and competent care.
  • Cross-functional Coordination: Work closely with product, finance, clinical, and other teams to ensure workflows and processes are integrated across the organization for optimal performance.
  • Innovation and Growth: Drive continuous improvement and innovation in virtual healthcare delivery methods.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for product development and technology departments. Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively to meet organizational goals.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to quality standards and comply with relevant laws and industry regulations. Implement quality assurance measures to maintain high standards of service delivery.

What You’ll Need

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in clinical operations roles, with at least 5 years leading centralized programs and services, preferably within a value-based care delivery organization. Pediatric care experience is a plus.
  • Expertise in population health management, telehealth technology, and digital health strategies.
  • Proven track record of designing and executing operations in rapidly scaling service delivery organizations.
  • Proficiency in data analytics to guide decision-making and improve service delivery.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire a team and drive cross-functional collaboration and complex projects.
  • A strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBA, MHA, MS, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
