We take pride in our commitment to environmental responsibility and providing our community with fresh and healthy produce year-round. As we expand, we are looking for a facilities director to join our team and help us run and maintain the greenhouse equipment and climate zones.
Job Description:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced facility director to join our team. The facility director will be responsible for the overall management, operation, optimization, and maintenance of our facility and growing systems. This role will involve all aspects of maintaining advanced hydroponic greenhouse systems including irrigation systems, environmental controllers/software, ventilation systems, lighting, and pest/disease management. Duties/Responsibilities:
Equipment Management:
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of hydroponic systems, including irrigation/fertigation, pH control, and environmental monitoring equipment.
- Ensure all systems, such as automatic irrigation controllers, sensors, and environmental control units, are functioning optimally and address any malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment to ensure reliability and longevity.
Environmental Controls:
- Manage and optimize the greenhouse environment by controlling and adjusting temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels using advanced environmental control systems.
- Oversee ongoing parameters and maintenance of climate control equipment, including HVAC systems, dehumidifiers, and air circulation fans.
- Ensure proper operation of ventilation systems, including intake and exhaust fans, to maintain optimal airflow and reduce the risk of overheating or humidity buildup.
- Oversee the management, and maintenance of greenhouse lighting systems, including LED and high-pressure sodium (HPS) lights.
Irrigation and Nutrient Delivery:
- Oversee irrigation systems to ensure precise delivery of water and nutrients.
- Optimize nutrient solution mixing and distribution to enhance plant health and productivity.
- Monitor and adjust irrigation schedules and nutrient concentrations based on plant needs and growth stages.
- Monitor water quality with various testing methods.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, train, and oversee a team of support staff responsible for assistance in daily equipment operation and maintenance.
- Provide guidance and support to team members to ensure proper handling and troubleshooting of greenhouse equipment.
Crop Production:
- Coordinate with the Farming Director to supervise support staff in the greenhouse.
- Assist in planting, plant care, and harvesting activities regularly.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, or a related field. Advanced certifications or training in greenhouse or hydroponic systems are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in greenhouse systems with a focus on equipment, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of hydroponic systems, irrigation systems, environmental controllers, ventilation systems, and lighting technologies. Proficiency in using greenhouse management software.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and motivating teams. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with team members, management, and external vendors.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data related to equipment performance and growing operations and make informed decisions.
