Trailblazer OperatorHarris County Precinct 4 is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to lead the planning and execution of trail construction and anchor park development projects along designated greenways. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment for land clearing, grading, excavation, and asphalt installation.The ideal candidate brings a strong work ethic, takes pride in doing meaningful work that enhances public spaces, and is committed to excellence. Experience in construction management, land surveying, possession of a Class A CDL, and the ability to read and interpret engineered plans are strong indicators of success in this role; however, applicants do not need to possess all these qualifications to be considered.Job Duties and Responsibilities:The following duties are illustrative of the types of work performed. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.Collaborate with the Operations Project Manager and Superintendent to define project scope.Estimate required resources, including time, equipment, and materials.Develop detailed project schedules to allocate resources efficiently.Monitor project progress and adjust timelines or resources as needed to ensure successful completion.Conduct regular quality reviews with project teams to ensure work meets established standards.Safely and proficiently operate a range of heavy equipment including (but not limited to): dozers, compactors, excavators, loaders, graders, asphalt laying machines, rollers, tractors, and forestry mowers.Prepare and clear land in accordance with grading and site plans; interpret grade stakes and operate in medium-to-fine grade conditions.Level and excavate land surfaces using appropriate machinery.Load and transport dirt, debris, and other materials from job sites using tandem dump trucks and trailers.Operate small engine and specialty equipment such as chainsaws, ATVs, cement mixers, and jackhammers.May be required to work before, during, or after an emergency or disaster, as determined by departmental needs.Harris County is an Equal Opportunity EmployerIf you need special services or accommodations, please call (713) 274-5445 or email ADACoordinator@bmd.hctx.net.RequirementsEducation:High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Experience:Five (5) years of hands-on heavy equipment operators' experience.Experience operating a variety of equipment.Must have verifiable working experience with asphalt.Licensure:Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving recordKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints is strongly preferred.Proficient in operating a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.Ability to safely drive a truck with a trailer.Solid understanding of general construction and handyman trades.Strong observation and problem-solving skills.Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and tasks.Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions.Well-organized with attention to detail.Demonstrates honesty, reliability, and a strong work ethic.Note: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application.
