Job Summary:

The Senior Product Development Engineer/Manager at Rhino Tool will lead all daily engineering functions and oversee engineering staff, with a focus on both product improvements and new product development. This role is pivotal in ensuring that company objectives and goals are met.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new Engineering and R&D staff.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the departments.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate various engineering functions and operations including design, specifications, prototyping, quality assurance, and testing.
  • Lead and coordinate research and development of new and existing products.
  • Serve as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Review work and projects for technical accuracy.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Prepare and execute departmental budget.
  • Maintain knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; apply this knowledge to continually improve product lines and develop new products.
  • Assist with tooling design.
  • Provide technical support as needed from sales, marketing, customer service, service, and the distribution network.
  • Utilize input from sales, customer service, distribution partners, and end users to ensure we meet or exceed market/customer expectations.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify opportunities for product differentiation and market expansion.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in resolving technical issues, addressing customer feedback, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Mentor and coach engineering team members, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and collaboration.
  • Perform Other Duties as assigned


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of engineering theory and design criteria.
  • Thorough understanding of applied math and physics.
  • Finite Element Analysis.
  • SolidWorks design and 3-D modeling.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least eight years of related experience required.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry, preferably in power tools or equipment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading product development projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams preferred
