Mechanical Plan ReviewerThe position performs mechanical plan reviews and on-site field inspections of properties to verify compliance with the approved construction documents, adopted codes, and ordinances of the City, to safeguard public health, safety and general welfare. This position is also responsible for administrative functions relative to the documentation of plan reviews and inspections. The successful incumbent will work on an as-needed basis.Essential FunctionsReviews construction plans and specifications to verify compliance to all applicable codes and ordinances.Conducts on-site inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings and applicable codes and ordinances.Performs Change of Occupancy inspections on existing buildings.Investigates complaints from Fire Prevention Inspectors and the general public regarding building safety concerns. Resolves complaint issues.Prepares and issues plan review correction letters and inspection violation notices. Tracks violations until resolved.Conducts on-site meetings with contractors and owners during construction to discuss code violations found during inspections.Reviews all documents required by permit conditions during construction, including deferred documents and special inspections, for code compliance and defects.Educates customers and all stakeholders of code and ordinance requirements.Analyzes complicated industrial procedures and processes to determine if hazardous materials or conditions exist.Other duties as assigned.Required Minimum Qualifications/Desirable QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associates degree in a related field AND three (3) years directly related experience OR High School diploma/GED equivalent AND six (6) years directly related experience.State of Michigan Licensed Mechanical Contractor.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Registration with the State of Michigan under Act 407 as a Plans Examiner and Mechanical Inspector as determined by the State of Michigan.Intermediate proficiency with office computers and related software.Valid Michigan Driver's License with no more than 4 points currently on record.Supplemental InformationPHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical and work environment characteristics described in this description are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
