POSITION OBJECTIVE

Schoel is currently seeking a high-caliber Principal level Civil Engineer to join their Site Development Team in Huntsville, Alabama. A Principal at Schoel has an incredible opportunity to join an established engineering company that puts people first and designs the most recognizable projects in the state of Alabama. You will be responsible for managing projects and leading a team of design professionals. This work includes coordinating and overseeing project workflows, leading design teams, developing and mentoring team members, conducting conceptual reviews, and resolving issues. You will also provide strategic leadership on projects within the civil engineering department, represent projects at public hearings, foster relationships with clients, contractors, and review authorities, while also generating new client connections. Principals at Schoel report directly to the Huntsville Department Manager and COO.


POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Production and Technical

  • Responsible for the management of all aspects of a civil engineering site development project including the production of the plans and specifications as well as the quality of the design and the documents.
  • Fully grasp the client’s vision for a project and effectively communicate that to the team.
  • Delegate and review the research and gathering of information, reports, plans, specifications, municipality requirements, and archives.
  • Oversee and assist with the final review of final construction document sets in hard-copy,
  • CAD and technical specifications.

● Communication and Relationships:

  • Respond in a timely manner to requests from both internal and external sources.
  • Be proactive in addressing issues brought to one's attention and elevate the appropriate issues to supervisor’s attention.
  • Oversees, coordinate, and/or lead project meetings internally and with clients, contractors, and review authorities.

● Project Management:

  • Continuously manage multiple projects or portions of projects of any size and complexity from initiation to closeout to satisfy company objectives for profitability, client satisfaction, and technical excellence.
  • Have the skill to be able to look ahead on projects to identify possible challenges and identify options to navigate them. This includes effectively communicating internally and with client about the challenge(s).
  • Prepare proposals for new work, properly initiate new projects in the financial system, and follow up on the status of proposals.
  • Review and approve monthly invoices.

● Leadership and Employee Development:

  • Take initiative to develop individual skills and the skills of team members.
  • Responsible for encouraging and mentoring the development of team members.
  • Take initiative to elevate the appropriate issues to the appropriate company leaders.
  • Develop and conduct individual and company training sessions.
  • Help others navigate software and other project issues as needed.

● Business Development:

  • Involved with organizations that support our community, industry, or our clients’ industries.
  • Have a professional network with individuals within and outside of our company and work on growing this network.

● Computer Software and Systems

  • Able to learn and use project management software as required by the Client and/or Project.
  • Open, navigate, and input information accurately into the core software and systems:


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 8-15 years of diversified experience in growing and leading teams in the areas of Site Development.
  • Have the ability to lead and work with multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Business development and marketing experience including; writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in effectively leading project teams.
  • Exhibits exceptional abilities in managing client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction, and fostering strong partnerships.
  • Possess adept problem-solving skills and organizational abilities, enabling efficient project management.
  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to present projects to City Councils, Planning & Zoning Boards, and Commissions.
