Kensington, United States Oneness-Family High School Full time

Oneness-Family Montessori High School is seeking a High School Math Teacher (Full or Part Time) to join our motivated and collaborative teaching team for the 2024/25 school year. The Math Teacher will plan, teach, and oversee all aspects of the math curriculum from grades 9-12 within the framework of a Montessori Adolescent program. Courses will range from Algebra 1 to Calculus, among other interdisciplinary elective options based on the interests and expertise of the candidate. While Montessori training is preferred, the ideal candidate can execute a student-centered, project-based, innovative program and possesses a flexible mindset and approach to learning.

The Montessori Adolescent Teacher accepts the challenge and the privilege of maintaining the role of a stable adult presence within the prepared adolescent environment. This professional is responsible for guiding the holistic development of the young people in the Adolescent Community as well as instructing students in academic disciplines.

Adults and students in the Montessori high school function in a community of learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. The program provides a consistent, yet flexible, structure; high expectations for work and conduct; a system of accountability; opportunities for student-led learning; and a focus on problem-solving. The curriculum promotes independence, self-direction, metacognition, and critical thinking. At its core, the collective elements of the program are a means to build community, discover passion, deepen curiosity, and provide experiences for each adolescent to engage deeply and meaningfully in self-discovery.

About the School

The mission of the Oneness-Family School is to ignite the spark in a new generation of courageous and capable leaders through a student-centered community of diversity, academic excellence, and innovation in the Montessori tradition. We are a collaborative community and are fundamentally grounded in Maria Montessori’s call to “follow the child.”

Team Responsibilities

  • Develop math curriculum on an ongoing basis in collaboration with the team. The math curriculum should be learner-centered in nature and dovetail with the integrated work and study that students engage with in their other classes.
  • Observe, advise, and counsel students as appropriate.
  • Serve as advisor for a portion of the students. This includes meeting with advisees weekly; communicating with parents about student progress via conferences and other consultations as needed; and conducting formal parent conferences 2-3 times yearly.
  • Coordinate with other adults working in the adolescent environment (co-teachers, specialty teachers, administrators).
  • Facilitate/supervise students’ community work.
  • Facilitate student internships.
  • Participate in interviews and discussions regarding admissions.
  • Chaperone beginning and end of the year overnight trips.
  • Supervise students during work time.
  • Support the team in additional areas of our program, such as Leadership, P.E, student trips, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field, Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • At least two years experience teaching at the high school level
  • Experience with Montessori, learner-centered, or progressive education
  • Montessori Adolescent Credential**

Those without a Montessori Adolescent certification will need to take the virtual Adolescent Orientation course in July through the Association Montessori Internationale and commit to earning a full credential within two years of employment.

  • Paid time off
  • Tuition remission
  • Competitive salary based on experience
