Medical Transcriptionist


Overview:

A skilled Medical Transcriptionist to join our busy Oncology Hematology Clinic team. In this role, you will be responsible for transcribing prerecorded audio notes from physician procedures into accurate and comprehensive written reports. The ideal candidate will have strong typing skills, a keen attention to detail, and a solid understanding of medical terminology.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review prerecorded audio notes from physician procedures.
  • Transcribe audio recordings into type-written format using a keyboard, computer, and audio control equipment.
  • Decide which information is relevant and should be included in reports.
  • Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies or mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries and other medical resources as needed.
  • Identify errors in reports and communicate with physicians to obtain correct information.
  • Perform data entry and retrieval, ensuring accurate inclusion of information into medical records.
  • Review transcriptions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Produce medical reports, correspondence, patient-care information, statistics, and administrative material.
  • Return transcribed reports in printed or electronic form to physicians for review, signature, and corrections.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and common medical procedures.
  • Proficiency in using computer software and audio transcription equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and correct errors.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Prior experience in medical transcription or related field is preferred.
