Corrections OfficerThe primary purpose of the Corrections Officer position is to guard, observe, and transport inmates. Officer enforces the rules and policies of the facility and insures that the safety and welfare of inmates and staff are safeguarded.This is a trainee position that involves required completion of academy and field training including closely supervised performance of corrections officer duties. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.Essential duties and responsibilities include attending training academy to become a certified jailer, performing corrections officer duties such as booking, classifying, observing, transferring, transporting, and releasing inmates, conducting inspections and searches, intervening and resolving crisis situations, restraining combative inmates, supervising inmates, and providing informal counseling. Supervisory responsibilities involve addressing complaints and resolving problems. The position requires education and experience, including a high school diploma or GED, consent to a criminal background check, and achievement of TCOLE certification within twelve months of appointment. Language, mathematical, reasoning, and other skills are also required.Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, and operating mechanical gates. The work environment involves exposure to various hazards and conditions.
