Police OfficerSpring Hill Police Department is seeking POST Certified Officers only. This is a skilled, full-time exempt position under the direct supervision of the Field Operations Lieutenant. The incumbent in this position protects citizens by preventing crime; enforcing laws; apprehending suspects; monitoring traffic.Examples of duties include: supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff; enforcing all City and State codes, ordinances, laws and regulations; patrolling designated areas via motor vehicle or on foot; preventing/discovering commission of crime; responding to calls/complaints involving automobile accidents, misdemeanors and felonies; conducting accident/criminal investigations; intervening in fights/disputes which cause disturbances/confusion; administering first aid as appropriate; enforcing vehicle parking and operating laws; establishing traffic control and police protection at incidents attracting crowds; performing police duties at parades, processions and other events; providing security/escort services to individuals, businesses or others as appropriate; examining premises of unoccupied buildings/residences to detect suspicious conditions; providing assistance to motorists as appropriate; conferring with staff, police officers and others as necessary to obtain information or resolve problems; communicating effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels; providing assistance to other officers as needed; responding to questions, complaints and requests for information/assistance by telephone or in person from the general public, news media, court personnel, employees, officials, or other persons; answering the telephone; preparing reports, logs, citations, and other documentation; maintaining current manuals, policies/procedures, bulletins, map books, etc., for reference and/or review; attending shift meetings, training sessions and seminars as required to remain knowledgeable of City/departmental operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with changing policies and procedures, codes, and criminal/civil case law; performing related work as required.Typical qualifications include: an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials and other employees; ability to keep records and prepare clear and concise reports; ability to understand and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions, read, write legibly; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; knowledge of appropriate criminal laws and standard operating procedures; H.S. diploma or equivalent required; MUST be 21 years or older at the time of testing; MUST possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license; MUST be a citizen of the United States; Must be POST certified. Candidates will be required to submit to oral interviews, background investigation, criminal and driving history search, medical examination, psychological examination and deception test. Disqualifications include, but not limited to: convictions, guilty plea or nolo contendere of a felony offense; conviction of a crime of moral turpitude; conviction for any federal, state or local ordinance relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substance; any violation of a domestic statute, including Orders of Protections; delinquent on Child Support, student loans, etc.; DUI convictions or interlock device required; dishonorable discharge or equivalent from any armed forces; tattoos that are considered offensive, lewd, obscene, or in such a way to be deemed inappropriate for the position.
