The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.At Target, we believe in our team members having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The role of a General Merchandise Expert can provide you with the:Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the storeExperience in retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvementExperience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goalsAs a General Merchandise Expert, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you are completing your daily tasks.When guests need assistance, engage with guests in a welcoming way, to help solve their specific needs.Thank guests and let them know we're happy they chose to shop at Target.Execute daily tasks assigned to you by your leader to help achieve goals that align with business priorities including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.If certified operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.Execute processes including changing prices to products, merchandise set-up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed by your leader for all areas.Learn how operational procedures, such as setting up and organizing merchandise, managing product stock levels, and maintaining sales floor areas, affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.Be knowledgeable about the resources, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience.Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance. Work in a safe manner at all times; comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct where possible.Support guest services such as back-up cashier, and digital fulfillment processes (such as picking and packing orders or delivering pickup orders to guests) and maintain compliance culture while executing those duties, such as federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.All other duties based on business needs.What we are looking for:This may be the right job for you if:You enjoy interacting and helping others - including guests that shop our store and fellow team members you work with.You thrive in a fast-moving, highly active and physically demanding role, where teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem solving are key to success.You are open to working a flexible work schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and other peak shopping times).The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a General Merchandise Expert. But, there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and other team membersAbility to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directedWork both independently and with a teamResolve guest questions quickly on the spotAttention to detail and follow a multi-step processesCapability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframesWe are an awesome place to work and care about our teams, so we want to make sure we are clear on a few more basics that we expect:Accurately handle cash register operations as neededClimb up and down laddersScan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 4 pounds without additional assistance from others.Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) reliable and prompt attendance necessaryCapable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
