The Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts at Columbia Law School seeks an Associate Research Scholar beginning January 2026. The researcher will report to the Center Faculty Directors and will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director. They will serve as an integral member of the Center, assisting with substantive legal research and analysis in relation to Kernochan Center projects, including the project on Artificial Intelligence Inputs. The researcher will have a substantive role in Center projects and will help generate ideas for things like symposia and presentations. They will also be involved in the planning and execution of project roundtables, conferences, publication of project reports, and media publicity. They will be responsible for overseeing the research associated with three databases operated by the Center, including being solely responsible for the establishment, population of and maintenance of the transition of the IFAR database to Columbia. In addition, the researcher will work with Professor Shyamkrishna Balganesh on designing public-facing materials for the Center's project on artificial intelligence, highlighting the research done and describing the issues being investigated. In addition, they will assist Professor Balganesh in research needed in furtherance of the White Paper associated with the project. They will research and write the United States' reports for the Alliance Literaire et Artistique Internationale. In conjunction with the Executive Director, they will also be responsible for hiring and supervising Kernochan Center research assistants. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.Minimum Qualifications: J.D.
