By fostering a supportive environment, Eight Million Stories helps unlock potential and create positive life trajectories.Role DescriptionThe GED Instructor (Contractor) is responsible for delivering high-quality GED instruction to YouthBuild participants across core subject areas while fostering a supportive, culturally responsive learning environment. This role is ideal for an experienced educator who is passionate about working with opportunity youth and comfortable in a fast-paced, mission-driven setting.Instruction & CurriculumProvide GED instruction in ELA, Math, Science, and Social StudiesImplement lesson plans aligned with GED standardsDifferentiate instruction based on student skill levels and assessment dataIntegrate life skills, workforce readiness, and youth development principles into instructionStudent Support & EngagementBuild positive, trusting relationships with students ages 16–24Monitor academic progress and adjust instruction as neededSupport student retention, attendance, and goal completionParticipate in case conferencing and student support meetingsAdministrative & ComplianceMaintain accurate attendance, grades, and student documentationSubmit required reports and instructional data in a timely mannerCollaborate with YouthBuild staff and program leadershipAdhere to organizational and grant compliance requirementsTime Commitment 20 hours/week of direct instruction (generally between 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)Program days Monday-Thursday, not including holidays and breaksQualificationsBachelor’s degree (Education, Social Sciences, or related field preferred)GED, Adult Education, or alternative education teaching experienceExperience working with opportunity youth or nontraditional learnersStrong classroom management and instructional skillsAbility to work independently in a contract roleComfort with data tracking and student progress documentationPreferred ExperienceExperience teaching in a YouthBuild or workforce-focused programKnowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching practicesFamiliarity with GED testing standards and preparation strategiesAdditional RequirementsSuccessful completion of a background checkAbility to work on-site in HoustonReliable transportationContractor StatusThis is a 1099 independent contractor position. Contractors are not eligible for employee benefits.
