Job Type Full-time Description Hudson Institute seeks a director of media relations to help develop and operationalize Hudson's communications strategy, promote Hudson's research and analysis, interface with press, and support the management of public affairs team members. This is a full-time position based out of Hudson's Washington, DC office reporting to the director of public affairs. About Hudson Institute. Hudson Institute is a research-focused public policy think tank headquartered in Washington, DC, dedicated to promoting American leadership and global engagement for a secure, free, and prosperous future. For more than half a century, Hudson Institute has been challenging conventional thinking by developing new ideas and practical solutions to shape critical foreign and domestic policy decisions. Responsibilities Develops, operationalizes, and manages Hudson's communications strategy to broaden Hudson's awareness among key audiences: policymakers, journalists, experts, and supporters. Cultivates and manages collaborative working relationships within the press and policy community, including building and maintaining relationships with reporters, producers, and editors. Proactively pitches Hudson Institute experts, research, and analysis to journalists to inform news articles and promote Hudson scholarship, including pitching new reports, policy memos, and experts as sources for breaking news. Fields and responds to press inquiries and schedules and facilitates interviews for scholars with media outlets. Pitches op-eds for scholars, facilitating communication between editors and scholars throughout the publication process. Manages the flow of news about Hudson Institute to the media, including drafting press releases for key events and announcements. Tracks Hudson media coverage, requesting corrections when necessary, and maintains comprehensive media lists. Collaborates with digital media manager to identify Hudson experts, research, and content to promote across social media channels, including coordinating newsworthy social media content and clippable event highlights. Engages Hudson's research staff to identify, develop, and communicate compelling stories, and regularly innovates and implements new communications approaches. Tracks breaking news and trending topics to leverage Hudson's policy work and expertise in real-time media opportunities. RequirementsCommitment to Hudson Institute's mission and supporting the work of the Institute's scholars and staff. Five years' relevant experience in communications, politics, policy, journalism, or other relevant fields. Strong news judgment and public policy savvy. Excellent media contacts and demonstrated experience pitching reporters. Excellent time and project management skills. Demonstrated social media proficiency and excellent multimedia skills. Excellent communication and comprehension skills, both written and oral, including professional and tactful demeanor in dealing with press. Ability to work closely and effectively with others-including Hudson's senior management, fellows, and staff. Creative and entrepreneurial mindset. Commitment to acting with integrity and the utmost professionalism. Salary Description $85,000 - $100,000
