Lifeguard PositionThis position participates in the provision of lifeguarding services at city aquatics facilities.Examples Of DutiesMajor duties include:Performing lifeguarding duties. Ensuring the safety of guests by observing swimmers.Enforcing pool rules and regulations. Ensuring all safety measures are observed.Assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the facility.Training and receiving proper Red Cross Lifeguard certifications.Cleaning grounds, locker rooms, and office.Providing patrons with information and assistance.Inspecting facility and reporting unsafe conditions.Completing accurate incident and accident reports.Responding to water emergencies and performing water rescues.Administering First Aid as needed.Setting up classroom and party room for events.Complying with City and departmental rules, policies and procedures. Performing related duties.Typical QualificationsMinimum qualifications include:Must be at least 15 years of age at time of employment.American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification at the time of employment.Must pass a required swim test.Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.Supplemental InformationKnowledge required by the position includes:Knowledge of pool safety guidelines.Knowledge of water rescue techniques.Knowledge of safe operation standards.Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.Skill in the provision of water rescue services.Skill in performing CPR, AED and First Aid activities.Skill in the completion of reports.Skill in oral and written communication with various audiences.Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.Ability to read, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures.Ability to provide quality customer service.Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, or flexible schedules.General expectations (not a comprehensive list)Supervisory controls, guidelines, complexity/scope of work, and physical demands/work environment are also part of the position.
